Lol, what “time and energy”? I’m a graduate student with a job and an internship, who is also trying to plan a wedding. There are some days I leave the house at 7AM, and don’t get home until after 9PM. Time and energy are at a premium in my life. However, they’re both necessary components for weight loss.

I’ll need time to do the following tasks regularly:

  • Cook
  • Grocery shop
  • Meal plan
  • Eat slowly
  • Exercise
  • Read my response cards

Beck warns us not to assume all this time will make itself magically available–we need to make the time. I know this will be hard for me. When I do have a few free hours, I don’t want to spend them all cooking. I need to reframe weight loss: it is not optional. If I needed to attend kidney dialysis several days a week, I bet I would somehow make time for that! Therefore, weight loss really needs to be prioritized in my life.

I’m going to have to wake up even earlier on weekdays, to fit in a healthy breakfast and a workout. Unfortunately, I almost never get enough sleep during the week as it is. I love sleeping. It’s ridiculous. I have nice pajama sets and a whole bedtime routine, because sleep is practically sacred to me. But do I love sleeping more than I loved being thin? No. Am I going to be irritated about this at first? Almost definitely. Luckily, I happen to share a bed with my diet coach, so he can make sure I get up on time.


How do you guys make time for dieting, or other positive lifestyle changes?
